The Truth About Bringing Someone To Your Senior Photoshoot
So.
You finally booked your senior photoshoot. Your date is coming up, and now you're wondering:
“Should I bring someone to my shoot?”
Mom, friend, cousin, grandma… pet lizard? Are they supposed to come, or is that weird?
If you're planning senior photos in Boulder, Colorado, this is actually one of the most common questions people ask before their session.
So let’s talk about it!
I'll start by saying this:
Whether you bring someone or not, your shoot will be amazing either way! It's not necessary to bring someone, but they're always welcome.
Every senior photoshoot is different, and the most important thing is that you feel comfortable, confident, and like yourself in front of the camera.
That being said…
You Should Definitely Bring Someone If…
you want that added moral support
you want someone to hold your stuff while we're shooting (this is very helpful!)
you want extra hype from someone who knows you well
you want 1 or 2 photos with that person
you want help with outfit changes (zipping dresses, fixing hair, holding shoes, etc.)
you tend to feel awkward in photos and want someone familiar to help you relax
you're shooting somewhere busy (like CU Boulder campus or another popular Boulder location) and want someone to help keep track of your things
you want behind-the-scenes videos or photos for Instagram or TikTok
For many people doing senior photos, bringing a friend can actually make the experience feel more fun and relaxed!
But You Should Definitely Not Bring Someone If…
you feel nervous with an extra pair of eyes
you don't want added feedback from that person (like which photos to take or their opinion on how you look)
you want all the attention on you (another person there = more conversation and more voices)
the person tends to stress you out or make you overthink
they might distract you while we’re shooting
you want the session to feel more calm, personal, and focused
you trust your senior photographer to guide everything (poses, locations, etc.)
So… What’ll It Be? :)
Bringin’ the homies or rockin’ solo?
I want to know!
